Qualification to Become an IAS Officer

Citizenship:- Candidates should be from India, Nepal, and Bhutan for this.
Education:- You should be a graduate in any subject or stream.
Age & Exam Attempt Limit:-
For General Student – You must be 21 to 32 years of age. candidates of the general category can give this exam only 6 times.
For SC / ST Student – You must be 21 to 30 years of age and there is no exam apt limit for students of this category. You can give IAS exam as many times as you want.
For OBC Students – You must be 21 to 35 years of age and students of this category can apply for the IAS exam 9 times.
Physically Disabled Candidates – They are kept from 21 to 42 years of age. For the exam, a total of 9 candidates have been given in this category for general and OBC candidates and there is no limit for SC and ST candidates they can give the exam as many times as they want.
In Jammu and Kashmir Domicile, the age limit has been kept at 37 years for General, 40 years for OBC, 42 for SC / ST, and 50 years for Physically Handicap.
For Disabled Servicemen and Disabled from Duty Candidates – General – 37 years, OBC – 38 years and SC / ST – 40 years, and the exam attempt limit is the same.

➤ Pass 12th Class
If you want to become an IAS officer, then for this you must first pass the 12th examination. If you are in school right now, from any stream, be it science, commerce, or arts subject, you have to pass the twelfth class first.
➤ Complete Graduation
As soon as you pass the twelfth, then after that, you have to complete your graduation degree in whatever subject you have an interest in. Because to become an IAS officer, it is very important to have a graduate degree. Only after graduating can you sit in UPSC civil service exam. You can not give this exam without graduation or a degree.
➤ Apply for UPSC Exam
Yes, as soon as your graduation is complete, then you have to apply for the UPSC exam. If you want, you can apply for this exam in the final year too. So if you want to become an IAS, IPS, IRS officer, then you have to give UPSC exam because UPSC conducts these exams and this is the most difficult exam.
As soon as you have applied for the UPSC exam, then you have to clear three main exams. The first is the prelims exam, the second is the main exam, and finally, the interview takes place.
➤ Clear Prelims Exam
After applying for the UPSC exam, you have to clear the first exam, which is called The Preliminary Exam. It consists of two papers and both are objective questions i.e. four options. Both papers will be of 200 – 200. To get into the next round, this stage has to be cleared, which is very important to become an IAS officer.
➤ Clear the Main Exam
As soon as you clear the first exam then after that, you will have to clear the main exam which is very difficult. In this, you have to give a total of 9 papers in which you have to give interviews along with returns and this is a bit difficult.
Many people are unable to clear this exam. But if you want to become an IAS officer, then you have to bring top marks in this exam. Therefore, you have to study carefully to clear the IAS exam.
➤ Clear Interview Round
As soon as both your rounds are clear then after that you are called for a personal interview which is about 45 minutes. You have to clear the interview and there are many interview panels here which ask you very difficult and tricky questions. So you have to be ready for this and you have to clear this round as well.
So if you follow these steps in this way and clear all the exams, then you will become an IAS officer. But remember this is not so easy. For this, you may also have to take separate tuition. If you want to pass the exam by doing a self-study, you can.
