Because of this, Google lost nearly 300 million of its customers in a single night.
It would be perfectly correct to say that today we might not even know Google if Sundar Pichai was not in Google at that time. A boy from a lower-middle-class family whose home was neither a television nor a car in his childhood. Today he is the CEO of not only a multi-billion dollar company Google but also his parent company, Alphabet.
So friends, in this article today, we will get to know a little about Mr. Sundar Pichai success story, a very talented and intelligent personality. So let’s start.
Sundar Pichai Early Life
Pichai Sundararajan as we know as Sundar Pichai. He was born in 1972 in a middle-class family in Madurai city of Tamil Nadu. His father Mr. Raghunath Pichai was an electrical engineer in a company called GEC. His mother Mrs. Lakshmi used to work as a stenographer before her birth.
Like a common middle-class family, his family also used to live in a 2-room apartment during that time. At that time his family’s financial situation can be gauged from the fact that his father had to save and wait for three years to buy a scooter for himself. When Sundar Pichai was about 14 years old, his first landline telephone came to his house.
They were very promising and intelligent students from the beginning. He completed his metallurgical engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1993. Soon after completing engineering, he earned a scholarship from Stanford University and moved to the US to do an MS in Material Science in Semiconductor Physics.
Friends, I would like to tell you that at that time, his US flight expenses were equal to his father’s salary of almost a year, but still, his family supported him and he reached the US.
His plan at that time was that he would start his Ph.D. as soon as he completed his MS degree. But then he dropped that idea in the middle and after taking his MS degree from Stanford in 1995, he started working as an engineer and product manager in a company called Applied Materials. But he did not work for much time in this company.
He left this job to pursue an MBA and took admission for an MBA at the Worton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his MBA from here in 2002. Right after his MBA, he joined As a Management Consultant at McKenzie. After a few days, he married his IIT’s bench mate and girlfriend Anjali.

The year 2006 was the year when he joined the post of Final President of Product Management at Google. The same year Google also launched its free mail service Gmail. Now I will tell you how his real success journey started at Google. How they came into the limelight in the eyes of Google’s founders and among the rest of the employees.
After joining Google, his initial project was of a Google toolbar. This toolbar was very important at that time because with the help of this toolbar people had the option to make Google the default search engine on Internet Explorer. Eric Schmidt was then CEO of Google.
Pichai told Eric Schmidt and Larry Page that the Google Toolbar project is fine, but we should also create our own browser. Eric Schmidt and Larry Page were not overjoyed to hear this and they rejected this proposal and idea of Sundar Pichai and said that Internet Explorer already exits as a very good browser in the market and we make something special by making our browser will not be able to do. So, just focus on Google Toolbar and complete this project.
Sundar Pichai said that one day Microsoft will create its own search engine, so maybe we should make our browser before that. But Eric and Larry did not pay too much attention to this and asked them to focus only on Google Toolbar. After that Pichai never teased this topic and kept working on the project of Google Toolbar.
Then one day, what Sundar Pichai had said long ago. Microsoft overnight removed Bing from Internet Explorer and made Bing the default search engine. In one night, Google lost 300 million of its customers. But by then Pichai and his team had almost created Google Toolbar. The rest of the work was also done by Pichai and his team, and very quickly compiled the Jijan and launched it in the Google Toolbar market.
With this, people had an option that they would return to Google as their default search engine. This toolbar helped Google a lot and 80% of the lost customers also returned to Google. By then Larry Page and Eric Schmidt had understood the value of Sundar Pichai and people had come to know him by the tag of a visionary product manager.
This incident forced Eric and Larry Page to accept the proposal of Findly Sundar. In 2008, under the management of Sundar Pichai, his team launched Google Chrome. Google Chrome was a grand success in itself because within a short time it had become the world’s most used web browser.
